Want to ensure your jewellery always looks as good as the day you brought it home? Try these simple jewellery care tips.

- Never wear your jewellery into the pool, especially silver and pearls. The chlorine can cause your silver to turn black and can damage delicate gemstones such at pearls. The same thing goes for hair spray and perfume. Spray first, then put on your jewellery.

- To prevent your silver, and even gold, from tarnishing when you are not wearing it, store your jewellery in air tight bags. The small plastic bags can be found at the dollar store. Not only will this keep the oxygen and sulphur off of your jewellery (what causes tarnish), this will also prevent pieces from rubbing together and scratching.

- To clean your jewellery, try using a soft toothbrush and warm water. Do not use harsh detergents, in fact, you can probably avoid soap altogether. Never use anything abrasive such as baking soda or soaps with grit. This can scratch the polish of the metal and the gemstones.

- To polish silver that is already tarnished, a soft polishing cloth will usually do a good job. However, it the piece is textured and not a smooth polish, a silver cleaning liquid will work better. Make sure to never use the liquid on any jewellery with gemstones as the liquids may damage the stones.

The special thing about jewellery is that if you treat it with care, it can last generations.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your jewellery for many, many years to come!
